Overview
The stories of two people who successfully went through addiction treatment at Mountainside – a rehab center with a well-known record of bringing people back from the brink to lead healthy, productive lives.
Two short films, shot to celebrate hope – and a tragic ending nobody would have written.
During post-production, one subject was found homeless, using again. The other was found in the sober house he had started for fellow transitioning addicts, dead from an overdose. It was the first time he had used in eight years.
I started the project knowing little about addiction. Then thought I knew a lot. Then I realized I knew nothing.
I present these films for what they are, and frozen in time. They’re unmixed, un-color-corrected, unpolished, unfinished. And just more heartbreaking for what we know, and don’t know, about addiction.
